#2.37 Baby Race

Bluey Recap: Baby Race (#2.37)

#bestbits: Bella (Coco’s mum) being the Mums-Group friend that we all want and need (pass the tissues)

#lifelesson: babies don’t come with an instruction book, and learn to run your own race

Chilli and the girls are at the playground and Bluey is comparing her monkey bar skills against Bingo and Judo. Chilli tells her to “run her own race” and sits the girls down to tell them the story of Bluey’s first steps.

Flashback to when Bluey was just a baby, lying on the floor drooling (as baby’s, and supposedly Bandit, do). Chilli is trying to encourage Bluey to roll over, which she does to her parents great delight and pride. Chilli admits she may have been a bit TOO proud, showing her off to everyone, especially when next week at “Mums Group”, Judo was sitting up by herself.

It then became a “baby race” with Chilli determined that Bluey would walk before Judo. With lots of practice, Bluey learned to sit up on her own.... unfortunately by this time Judo had learnt to crawl.

At home, Chilli works to get Bluey crawling (while Bandit has all manner of difficulties assembling baby paraphernalia). She begins by rolling, but Chilli reads books and takes her to the doctor, convinced that there is something she can do. Eventually, Bluey progresses to bum shuffling (which I can tell you from experience with my daughter, is a VERY effective way for babies to get around), then to crawling... albeit backwards. Even Nanna Heeler has a (questionable) solution to get her walking.

However, Judo had won the baby race and Chilli slumps into a new-mum depression as she feels she’s failing. It isn’t until Coco’s Mum comes for a visit, shows her a photo of her NINE babies, and tells her she’s doing a GREAT job, that Chilli learns to stop comparing and run her own race.

Chilli returns to Mums group, and Bluey learns to walk in her own time.
