The Heelers are playing a game of ‘Pop up Croc’ when Mum announces that it’s bedtime. In protest, the girls run outside where they say goodnight to the frogs, kangaroos and bilbies, before Dad says goodnight to the Fruitbats. Bingo informs him that they are nocturnal. Bluey wishes she could stay up all night like a Fruitbat.
Bandit has to pull out every Dad-trick in his book to get Bluey to bed - ‘rocketship’ to go up the stairs, ‘penguins’ to have a shower, and ‘story game’ for a bedtime book (we play this one a LOT!)
Bluey complains again that it’s not fair as Mum and Dad say goodnight. Bingo passes out in hilarious typical toddler fashion, while Bluey tosses and turns. She eventually gets up and sneaks downstairs.
Dad is having a nap on the floor and flailing about mid dream. Mum explains he is probably dreaming about playing touch footy with his mates as he doesn’t get to do it much anymore - he’s too busy with work and parenting. Bluey thinks maybe she could dream about being a Fruitbat and rushes upstairs to bed.
In a dream sequence, Bluey goes outside to try and find Dad and takes off from the deck to fly with the fruitbats in the sky. She flies past her friends asleep in their beds and hangs upside down in numerous trees to eat fruit with the other fruitbats.
Bluey hears Dad and flies to find him on the footy field with his mates, scoring a perfect try. They say hello before Bluey flies off again and wakes in her bed from the dream.
In what epitomises the life of a parent, Mum greets Bluey in the kitchen with “Hi! 7 o’clock - that was a big sleep!” (If we get to 6.30am I consider that a sleep in). Dad is doing sit ups on the floor and Bluey jumps on him to say thank you for looking after them (obviously recalling Mum saying that he doesn’t get to play footy much anymore).
Mum offers Bluey her favourite breakfast.... fruit salad, which she turns her nose up at - having had her fill as a (dream) fruit bat!
