#3.9 Pass the Parcel
Bluey Recap: Pass the Parcel (#3.9)
#bestbits: the new party terminology of “Lucky’s Dads Rule”
#lifelesson: we’re raising a nation of squibs, and you can’t win every time
Bluey, Bingo and their friends are at Leila’s birthday party, seated in a circle ready to play pass the parcel. Lucky’s Dad (Pat) has been asked to do the music, but told to make sure that he stops on every child (as there is a prize in each layer). Pat is shocked by this new version of “pass the parcel” - he wants to know what happened to the old one-prize-in-the-middle rules.
A new day and it’s Lucky’s birthday party - Pat and Janelle are preparing the balloons and games and Pat insists that they play the old fashioned version of pass the parcel - one big prize in the middle…. and everyone else has to suck it up.
The kids minds are certainly ‘blown’ when they find out there isn’t a present in every layer. Kids run off crying to parents and Pat ends up trying to bribe them with $5 notes…. with everyone declaring the game a disaster (except of course the winner of the big prize in the middle).
However, as more parties are had, the kids keep requesting “Lucky’s Dads Rules” and slowly but surely they all get used to not winning every time, learning to be happy for the winner, and realising that one day it might be their turn.
Finally it’s Bluey’s birthday party, and she lets Bingo decide the “pass the parcel” rule. Lucky’s Dad is given the honour of being the music man (hard rock) for the game, and assumes it’s the “everyone gets a prize” version. He even relents to say that it’s ok, the kids can just have a bit of fun.
Upon opening the first layer however, they discover its “Lucky’s Dads Rule”, and everyone cheers!
After a false finish for a final guitar riff in the music, Bingo gets to open the final layer and win a much coveted birdkite!
