#lifelesson: Beware feltpens - they multiply! And new felt pens don’t have to be limited to drawing

Bandit is getting ready for work as the girls eat their (dog biscuit???) cereal. They beg him not to leave as Chilli offers new felt pens as a distraction - it works and the girls set about playing “Rug Island.”

Bluey paddles across the backyard-sea on a surfboard, fishing for feltpen-fish while Bingo builds a feltpen-shelter and goes in search for some feltpen-pippies.

Suddenly, they discover a cast-away adult on their “Rug Island” (Bandit). In a Lord of the Flies-esque sequence complete with feltpen-spears, the girls decide that he can stay (and Bluey won’t eat him) while he waits for his ship to come. 

Bingo patiently teaches Dad the ways of the island - picking their own feltpen-food (watch out for feltpen-snakes) and spearing feltpen-fish. Bandit adapts to island life and even lights a feltpen-fire (also pretend lighting his bum on fire). Bluey gradually accepts him as a fellow islander as they happily share a feltpen-meal and watch the sunset.

However trouble begins when Pat (Lucky’s Dad) kicks the footy over to the island and the kids claim it as their own (lickable) egg. Bandit wants to return it to the neighbours but the kids want to claim it as their own. As he goes to give it back to Pat, he has a change of heart and instead attacks him with a feltpen-snake. This act of bravery merits a ceremony where Bandit is christened “not a grown up” and the three happily lick the egg and continue island life.

Eventually, Mum the ship comes along to collect Dad for work. Bingo would like him to stay, but now understands that he has to go and is just glad he came to visit them on Rug Island. She sends him on his way with a parting gift - a feltpen, which on Rug Island, represents absolutely everything.
